Meet Wally; Someone, for reasons we will never understand, tied this dog to a tree in our yard. Not only was he tied by his leash, he had barbed wire around his neck and he was tied by that also. We assume so he wouldn’t pull on his leash to free himself. You see, this beautiful animal is quite strong, in body, in mind and in spirit. He joined our family in a way that is not normal, but the other dogs and cats love him. He is a very mild mannered dog who bothers none of the other animals. He likes to be petted and he likes to be walked on a leash, although you would think he would be afraid of them. |

About four months ago, Paul Chacho and myself rescued four kittens from the roof of a medical building on campus. They were born under a swamp cooler. The kittens were about four weeks old. Holly and I adopted two of them, whom we named Paulie (after Paul) and Lucie (after Holly’s grandmother). Because they were so young and not weaned, Holly had to bottle feed them for a few weeks. They bonded with Holly and accepted her as their mom and me as their dad. They slept between us every night for months. They loved to wrestle with each other and get into all kinds of kitten mischief. They appeared healthy, but in fact were not. We took them to the vet who diagnosed them with parasites and prescribed some medicine for them. It seemed to help for awhile. Recently Paulie became sluggish and lost a lot of weight. He would still sleep with us, purr and make muffins, but not to the extent he used to. In spite of the antibiotics Holly gave him along with the prescribed medicine, he didn’t do well. |
